History and scope
The Magnetism series of conferences aim to bring together the magnetism communities of the UK and RoI, although also welcoming colleagues from further afield. The conference includes parallel oral sessions, invited talks, including IEEE Distinguished Lectures, poster sessions and an exhibition for industry. A conference dinner provides further opportunity for colleagues to meet.
The inaugural Magnetism 2014 conference was held in Manchester from 7-8 April with over 180 attendees, which grew at Magnetism 2015 in Leeds to over 220. The conferences host the annual Wohlfarth lecture given by Professor Atsufumi Hirohata (University of York) in 2014 and Professor Laura Heyderman in 2015, and Plenary lectures given by Nobel Laureate Professor Sir Andre Geim (Magnetism 2014) and Professor Stuart Parkin (Magnetism 2015).
The conference encourages participation from across the breadth of magnetism and has included oral sessions on a wide range of subjects including spintronics, domain walls, dynamics, vortices, skyrmions and topological systems, spin ice, biological and organic magnetism, superconductors, magnetocalorics and ab initio theory.
Magnetism 2016 will maintain the high quality of presentations and inclusivity that has proved popular previously but will also include an extended reception in the poster and exhibition area.
